"Arles, a sunny morning in April. I spotted a man working in a garden. A wild triangle, bordered by the railway line below. The houses in the surrounding area live to the rhythm of the daily trains. Curious, I retraced my steps and struck up a conversation with this gardener pruning an overgrown fig tree. That's how I met Edmond.
"It's the Ladies' Wind! The one that blows when women wait for their husbands with their skirts up on the rocks!"
Edmond was passionate about the wind and his region, and a great handyman, creating weathervanes. It was this astonishing, solar energy that I loved photographing during my many subsequent visits. Edmond never stopped. And it was closely followed by Janine, in the early years, that he showed me around the city and told me about its railway, political and artistic history. It was certainly a fair wind that blew me past the house of this famous Arlesian."
